Doctoral Session Report: Discover Four New Compounds, Ferlinahayati Achieves Doctorate.

Research related Ferlinahayati ( Indonesian) phytochemical and cytotoxic properties of phenolic compounds on Morus, or commonly known to the public as mulberry plants delivered to a doctorate. By finding the four new compounds and outlined several compounds that have toxic properties against murine leukemia cells P-388, he successfully defended his dissertation, entitled "Phytochemical and cytotoxic compounds from the genus Morus Phenol Derivatives of Growing up in West Java" in the Doctoral Program of the Open Session organized by the Graduate School of ITB, Friday (11/06/10) Annex building located at ITB.

Interest in the unique structure and various activities contained in the phenolic compounds from Morus Morus background Ferlinahayati examine plants, particularly from West Java Morus, deeper. In several studies Morus has cytotoxic activity, antinematodal, antiviral, and antiinflammatory antiagregasi platelets. Dissertation research Ferlinahayati specialized nature of toxicity and phytochemical studies on plants used to feed silkworms this.

Ferlinahayati said: "This dissertation research was conducted using three plant species namely M. Morus australis Poir, Linn M. nigra, M. alba is a species of Morus Linn in West Java, and also investigated the cytotoxic properties of compounds which were isolated on murine leukemia cells P-388. " Through his research at the Science Faculty Prodi Kimia ITB, he succeeded in isolating the phenolic compounds 24 with four new compounds from Morus, and get some active compounds derived cytotoxic against murine leukemia cells P-388.

According to the dipromotori promovenda by Prof. Dr. Euis Holisotan Judge, as well as co-promoter Prof.. Dr. Maolana Yana and Dr. Shah. Lia Dewi Juliawaty this, the discovery of four new compounds that is 6.3 '-O-dimetilmorasin M (1) (group 2-arilbenzofuran), 5,7,2', 4'-metoksiflavon tetrahidroksi-3-(2) (flavonoid flavonol type), 7-epialboktalol (3) (dimeric stilbene) and morunigrin (4) (combined stilbene-arilbenzofuran) has produced new insights on the phytochemical genus Morus.

Furthermore, he explained, the discovery of 20 other compounds to strengthen the ability of this genus produce a variety of phenolic compounds. In addition, the results also showed an increase cytotoxicity against murine leukemia cells P-388 isolated compounds in the presence of the isoprenoid group at position C-3 of the flavonoids. The trial which was also attended by the Dean of Graduate School, Prof. ITB. Dr. Ir. Ofyar Z. Tamin ended with so proud when Prof. Dody Sutarno, Ph.D., as chairman of the court announced that Ferlinahayati successful in promoting his doctorate cum laude.
